To create a book jacket that represents the international romantic relationship between a New York City woman and a British man. The long distance friendship, which lasted twenty years, existed only in the mail; they wrote and mailed love letters.

This is one of my favorite books and I really wanted to update the cover to a more contemporary look. I wanted to use symbols, rather than images of people, to explain this unique relationship. To begin, I used an international mail envelope as a background texture and divided in into two equal sections. Then I added an American and British stamp and placed them at opposite ends of the book. I used a paper airplane to suggest the message going from one side of the Alantic to the other. The dotted lines symbolize flight and the heart, of course, represents love.
